Media Advisory: Coast Guard Sector Charleston to hold open house, observe kickoff to National Safe Boating Week

WHAT: An open house to observe the kickoff to National Safe Boating Week from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Media availability with Capt. WHEN: Saturday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

CHARLESTON, SC. ─ Members of Coast Guard Sector Charleston, along with port partners, are scheduled to host an open house Saturday, May 19 to observe the kickoff for National Safe Boating Week.

The open house is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

During the event, the public will have an opportunity to learn about life-saving equipment for boating, kayaking, and canoeing. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary personnel will also be available to demonstrate and inspect safety equipment and offer free vessel safety checks.

Visitors will be offered free tours of Coast Guard boats, cutters and sector facilities. There will be a helicopter search and rescue demonstration at 11 a.m.

National Safe Boating Week is a week-long annual campaign for the Coast Guard and port partners to emphasize the importance of safe boating practices and the use of boating safety equipment. National Safe Boating Week lasts from May 19-25.
