SUBJ: MASTER CHIEF PETTY OFFICER OF THE COAST GUARD
1.  I am pleased to announce that Jason M. Vanderhaden relieved Master Chief Steven W. Cantrell as the 13th Master
Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard at a ceremony today at TISCOM, in Alexandria, Virginia.
2.  Master Chief Vanderhaden most recently served as the Command Master Chief for Coast Guard Deputy
Commandant for Mission Support, and served our Nation and our U.S. Coast Guard workforce with distinction.
I look forward to his insight and guidance as he advocates for our enlisted workforce as one of the senior leaders
of our leadership team.
3.  Master Chief Cantrell’s leadership, guidance and support for our workforce was invaluable during one of the most
ambitious and exciting times in the history of our service.  I relied on his counsel and his ability to carry out my intent
as he worked tirelessly to modernize our enlisted workforce evaluation process, achieved professional certifications for
our enlisted qualifications, and gave his endless support for our most important asset – our people.  It has been an
honor and privilege to serve our Nation alongside Steven Cantrell and his wife, Janet – who, for more than 35 years,
have been advocates and leaders of the world’s best coast guard – the U.S. Coast Guard!
4.  ADM Paul F. Zukunft, Commandant, sends.
5.  Internet release authorized.
