Coast Guard, others search for man in York River, Va.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard and other agencies are searching for a man Tuesday in the York River after a jon boat capsized near York River State Park in Williamsburg.

Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads Command Center in Portsmouth received notification at about 2:30 p.m. from the James City County Police Dept. that the 14-foot boat capsized with two people  aboard.

One person was wearing a life jacket and was recovered by James City County Police and transported to a hospital for treatment.

A 68-year-old man who was not wearing a life jacket is still missing.

Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads immediately issued an urgent marine information broadcast to alert mariners in the area. The Coast Guard launched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small and a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Station Milford Haven, diverted Coast Guard Cutter Frank Drew, and sent crews from Boat Forces Training Center Yorktown to search.

The Navy Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron launched a helicopter crew, and Virginia Marine Resources Commission, James City County Police, Virginia Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries, and Gloucester Volunteer Fire Dept. all have crews on scene searching with the Coast Guard.

"We're doing everything we can to work as a team and locate this man," said Lt. j.g. Brad Miliken, command duty officer for Sector Hampton Roads.
