HOUSTON — The Coast Guard medevaced a 49-year-old crew member from a chemical tanker near Freeport, Friday evening.
Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a request from the captain of the 580-foot vessel Stolt Perseverance for the medevac of a crew member who was reportedly burned by venting steam aboard the chemical tanker 48 miles offshore.
An Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew arrived on scene, hoisted the crewmember and transported him to awaiting University of Texas Medical Branch personnel at Scholes International Airport at Galveston.
“Due to the excellent communication between the crew of the vessel, personnel at UTMB and our aircrew, we were able to successfully help someone in need quickly and efficiently,” said Lt. Brian Muldoon, Air Station Houston MH-65 pilot.
Weather on scene was reported as 16 mph winds with 3-foot seas.
