SAN PEDRO, Calif. — The Coast Guard is scheduled to host the 13th Annual Channel Islands Harbor Safe Boating Expo in Oxnard Saturday.

"Local vendors will demonstrate the latest in safety products and hands-on training for the proper use of fire extinguisher, life jacket, flares, paddleboards, kayaks and a CPR fashion show featuring the latest styles of life jackets," said Henry Goldman, the National Safe Boating Expo chairman. "There will be many vendors and local organizations in attendance, it is a fun event for families and anyone interested in staying safe on the water."

It is advised to bring in worn and damaged life jackets to receive a new one, while supplies last. Expired flares will be taken for disposal by the Ventura County Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Unit and in return receive a discount coupon for new ones. Presentations and training will be provided on boating under the influence, DUI's and the newly required California Boating Card.

Coast Guard Station Channel Islands Harbor boats, the Coast Guard Cutter Blacktip and other first responder platforms will be open for public tours, which will be offered throughout the day of the boating expo.
