SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard assisted seven boaters after their vessel began taking on water west of La Jolla, Friday.
At 10:25 a.m., Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center watchstanders were contacted by the operator of the 80-foot vessel Mahana reporting they were taking on water approximately 18 miles west of La Jolla and were unable to keep up with the rate of flooding.
A Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter crew was dispatched to assist the Mahana. A U.S. Navy vessel operating in the area and San Diego Lifeguards also responded.
At approximately 11:15 a.m. the Jayhawk crew arrived on scene and a rescue swimmer was lowered lowered to the Mahana, along with a dewatering pump.
Once the rate of incoming water slowed, Mahana's crew began making way toward port.
At approximately 1:45 p.m., the Mahana crew safely moored the vessel in Mission Bay.
There were no reported injuries.
