Coast Guard responding to sunken vessel on Ohio River
NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is responding to a sunken vessel at mile marker 980 on the Ohio River near Cairo, Illinois, Friday.
Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley watchstanders received a report at 3:50 p.m. about the uninspected towing vessel Charley Wallace being fully submerged inside the channel on the Ohio River.
The Coast Guard has issued a waterway restriction between mile marker 979 and mile marker 981 on the Ohio River.
The Charley Wallace has a maximum potential of 1,048 gallons of diesel aboard. There are reports of sheen in the water.
Involved in the response are:
- Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Paducah
There were no reported injuries.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
