Coast Guard rescues 8 people near Pensacola Bay Bridge, Florida

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued eight people aboard a disabled vessel near Pensacola Bay Bridge, Florida, Monday.

Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report at 8:46 p.m. that eight people, including a pregnant woman, were aboard a 26-foot Pontoon boat that was near Pensacola Bay Bridge and had a disabled engine, no navigational lights, no radio, and a dragging anchor.

Coast Guard Station Pensacola launched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small boat crew and arrived on scene at 9:52 p.m. and put the pontoon boat in tow.

The boat crew towed the vessel safely to 17th Street Boat Ramp. No injuries were reported.

“It’s important that all boaters plan and prepare before going out on the water. Having all of the required safety gear, equipment, and life jackets on board can help ensure boaters’ safety,” said Lt. Cmdr. Trevor Blount, command center chief at Sector Mobile.
