US Coast Guard announces appointments to National Boating Safety Advisory Council

 

WASHINGTON —  The U.S. Coast Guard announced Monday the appointment of 15 individuals to serve as members of  the National Boating Safety Advisory Council (NBSAC).

NBSAC was established by Congress in 1971 and provides advice and recommendations on matters relating to recreational boating safety to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security through the Coast Guard Commandant and the Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy.

Twenty-one members are divided evenly among three membership categories in NBSAC:

  1. Seven representatives of state officials responsible for state boating safety programs
  2. Seven representatives of recreational vessels manufacturers and associated equipment manufacturers
  3. Seven representatives of national recreational boating organizations and from the public, at least five of whom shall be representatives of national recreational boating organizations

This chart lists the 2018 appointees, organizational affiliations, membership categories represented and term expiration dates. Each member holds office for a term up to three years with one-third of the membership expiring each year.
