Coast Guard rescues kayaker in Cape May Inlet, NJ

PHILADELPHIA — The Coast Guard rescued a man after his kayak capsized in the vicinity of Cape May Inlet, New Jersey, Sunday.

A commercial fisherman contacted watchstanders at Sector Delaware Bay’s Command Center in Philadelphia, via VHF-FM radio channel 16 at 10:57 a.m., and reported seeing a person in the water and a capsized kayak.

Sector Delaware Bay launched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Station Cape May. Once on scene, crewmembers were able to safely remove the man from the water and transport him to Station Cape May, where he met local EMS for evaluation

“If you see something, say something,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Sean Davis, watchstander at Sector Delaware Bay. “The quick response and communication of this good Samaritan helped save a person’s life. We encourage people to look out for their fellow mariners and contact the Coast Guard immediately if they see any signs of danger.”
