CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard rescued one boater and recovered a second unresponsive boater after their vessel capsized near South Padre Island, Texas, Thursday.

Sector/Air station Corpus Christi watchstanders were notified by the Willacy County Sheriff's Department at approximately 11:30 a.m. to report that a 21-foot boat had capsized with two persons aboard off the Port Mansfield jetties.

Watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and launched an Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin aircrew, a rescue boat crew from Station South Padre Island and the Coast Guard Cutter Jacob Poroo to the scene. A Coast Guard HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew was diverted from a training mission to assist.

Once on scene, the HC-144 aircrew spotted the two boaters in the water. A Coast Guard Station South Padre Island rescue boat crew recovered both boaters, and transferred them to awaiting emergency medical services at the Poco Loco boat ramp in Port Mansfield.

One boater was reported in stable condition, the other was reported as unresponsive.

The cause of the capsize is unknown and there is no reported pollution in the water.
