Coast Guard medevacs tanker crewman

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard medevaced a 26-year-old man from a tanker approximately 195 nautical miles south-southeast of Southwest Pass, Louisiana, Wednesday.

Watchstanders at the Eighth Coast Guard District command center received a report from the Secretaría de Marina that a crewman aboard the gas tanker Prins Alexander was suffering jaw pain.

The tanker was approximately 275 miles south of Grand Isle and 80 nautical miles south of the maritime boundary line at the time of the report.

SEMAR reported they were unable to medevac the individual and requested assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard.

Watchstanders directed the launch of an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Florida, and an HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircrew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Alabama.

The aircrew hoisted the man and transferred him to waiting emergency medical services at Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans.

EMS transported the individual to Ochsner Medical Center. His condition is unknown.
