Coast Guard rescues overdue kayaker off Murray Key

Update: “We saw a dim light on night vision goggles and were thankful to find the survivor quickly," said Lt. Chris Pappe, MH-65 Dolphin helicopter co-pilot. "Often times these cases turn into many hours of searching, so it was a relief to affect a rescue immediately upon arriving.”

MIAMI — The Coast Guard rescued an overdue kayaker Wednesday off Murray Key. 

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Key West Command Center received a call at approximately 10:20 p.m. Tuesday from the Everglades National Park ranger reporting an overdue kayaker.

A Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew found the overdue kayaker at approximately 12:30 a.m.Wednesday, hoisted him and transported him back to Flamingo Visitors Center with no reported injuries.
