Coast Guard members to demonstrate life-saving skills, offer tips for navigating Oregon Inlet

WHO: Coast Guard members from Station Oregon Inlet, Coast Guard Auxiliary members from Flotilla 16-07
WHAT: Coast Guard members will offer emergency equipment demonstrations, a boat ride, and interviews on preparation for boating season and the hazards of Oregon Inlet.
WHEN: Friday, March 30, 10 a.m.
WHERE: Station Oregon Inlet, 114 W. Woodhill Drive, Nags Head, NC 27959
NAGS HEAD, N.C. — Media are invited to view demonstrations and interview Coast Guard members at Coast Guard Station Oregon Inlet, March 30.
The event is scheduled to be held near the station’s pier at 10 a.m.
Station Oregon Inlet crewmen will demonstrate how to use various pieces of safety equipment, including flares and smoke signals.
The crew will then take interested media members on a boat ride through Oregon Inlet to demonstrate safe navigational practices and convey the dynamic nature of the bar.
Coast Guard members will discuss precautions mariners should take when preparing for summertime boating, as well as the hazards inherent in crossing the Oregon Inlet bar and how to mitigate them.
Auxiliary members will also offer information about vessel safety inspections and boating safety classes.
