Coast Guard assists disabled vessel

NEW ORLEANS —The Coast Guard located and towed a vessel that became disabled near Grand Isle, Louisiana, Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at 5:32 p.m. Wednesday of an overdue 32-foot vessel with one person aboard that didn’t arrive Tuesday as scheduled.

Coast Guard watchstanders determined the approximate location of the vessel using a cell phone signal belonging to the person aboard the overdue vessel.

Sector Watchstanders diverted an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to locate the vessel.

The aircrew located the vessel at approximately 7 p.m. near Grand Isle and transferred a radio to the vessel.

The person aboard the vessel reported that the vessel was disabled.

Sector watchstanders directed the launch of a 45-foot response boat-medium crew from Coast Guard Station Grand Isle to assist the vessel.

The boat crew arrived on scene at approximately 10 p.m. and towed the vessel to Nerby Collins Marina.
