SUBJ:  2018 EXCEPTIONAL SEXUAL ASSAULT RESPONSE COORDINATOR (SARC) OF THE YEAR AWARD
1. The Department of Defense Exceptional SARC of the Year Award is presented each April to
an individual (military or civilian) from each military service. This program recognizes
individuals whose work in the field of sexual assault prevention and response has been
particularly noteworthy and demonstrates outstanding service in support of our service members.
Recognition will be announced during the Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM)
in April 2018. An award will be presented to each of the following entities for a total of six
awards, which includes the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, National Guard Bureau and the
Coast Guard.
2. All six service awardees must meet all of the following eligibility requirements:
   A. Only the military services listed above may submit the name of that Service’s Exceptional
SARC awardee.
   B. Each service may only award one candidate.
   C. No anonymous awards will be accepted.
   D. Awardees may be military members or federal civilian employees.
   E. Awardees must have served as the SARC on an installation, deployed environment, or in a
reserve component during some or all of the 1 January 2017 - December 31, 2017 timeframe.
   F. Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Victim Advocates who perform the duties of a SARC
are eligible.
   G. If an awardee does a permanent change of station or is transferred during the award
timeframe, the overall organization headquarters may consider this nomination.

awardee’s personnel records to ensure it contained no adverse actions during the award period.
3. Each service sets their own schedule and award protocols to receive and review submissions
in order to select one awardee to represent the service. The awardee package is submitted

final service awardees to ensure compliance with issued guidance. SAPRO will notify the Service
SAPRO and the Service SAPRO will notify the awardee of their selection. SAPRO will follow
