Coast Guard rescues 3 people from disabled vessel near Fort Pierce

MIAMI — The Coast Guard rescued three people from a disabled boat approximately 34 miles east of Fort Pierce, Monday.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. the crew of a passing freighter notified Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders of a disabled 40-foot sailing vessel with three people aboard near Fort Pierce Inlet. Watchstanders diverted the Coast Guard Cutter Robert Yered crew to assist.

The cutter Yered crew arrived on scene, safely transferred the three people to the cutter with no reported injuries. The cutter took the vessel in tow and while towing the vessel a reportedly large swell hit the sailing vessel, which parted the towline.

Coast Guard crews are currently searching to relocate the vessel.
