Coast Guard responds to helicopter crash in East River
NEW YORK – The Coast Guard is responding to a private helicopter crash in the East River, north of Roosevelt Island near 86th street, Sunday evening.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New York command center received initial notification shortly after 7:00 p.m., of the incident with six people onboard.
Coast Guard Station New York launched two 45-foot Response Boat – Medium boatcrews and one 29-foot Response Boat – Small to assist.
The Coast Guard and partner agency officials from the New York City Police Department and the New York City Fire Department are responding to the incident.
One person has been rescued by a tugboat on scene.
Five people have been recovered by New York City Police Department and the New York City Fire Department divers and their conditions are currently unknown.
