BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard is notifying mariners that a section of a pier, which is approximately 150 feet long, that was found floating in the Potomac River just south of Mallows Bay, Maryland, Thursday, poses a navigation hazard.
At 1:54 p.m., a Coast Guard Station Washington, D.C., boat crew notified watchstanders at the Sector Maryland-National Capital Region Command Center that they spotted the pier segment while conducting training.
The pier was too large for the station’s 29-foot Response Boat—Small crew to safely move.
A Broadcast Notice to Mariners is being transmitted via VHF-FM channel 16 every hour and will be updated with new information as it becomes available or until the object is removed.
