Coast Guard medevacs Navy sailor off of U.S.S. Kidd in Strait of Juan de Fuca

PORT ANGELES, Wash. — The Coast Guard conducted a medical evacuation of a sick Navy sailor aboard the U.S.S. Kidd, which was transiting the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Sunday afternoon.
The sailor was picked up by an aircrew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles and flown to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island where they were met by emergency medical services and transported to Island General Hospital for further care.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound received the medevac request from the command of the U.S.S. Kidd, a Naval destroyer homeported in San Diego, at 1:44 p.m. The Port Angeles aircrew arrived on scene at 3:20 p.m. and landed aboard the ship to pick up the sailor.
The sailor, a 23-year-old male, was in stable condition at the time of transport.
