Coast Guard, State respond to sewage release from Coast Guard Station South Portland, Maine

 

BOSTON — The Coast Guard is working with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection Friday after a release of an estimated 1,500 gallons of untreated sewage from Coast Guard Station South Portland, Maine, into the Fore River.

A local contractor damaged the sewage pipe during a base construction project.

The Maine DEP was notified of the incident and responded to evaluate the situation. The source has been secured and remedial repair options are being explored.

Coast Guard Station South Portland is located approximately a half mile east of the Casco Bay Bridge.
