SUBJ: 2018 COAST GUARD VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

1.  The 15th Annual Coast Guard Volleyball Tournament will be held at the Coast Guard
Academy in New London, CT, 16-17 March 2018.
2.  The objectives of this tournament are to exhibit sportsmanship and team play, develop a
competitive spirit, and showcase athletic talent while creating exposure for the competitive
volleyball community in the Coast Guard.  Last year’s event was attended by teams from all
around the Coast Guard and resulted in 45 hours of volleyball being played in the two day
tournament.
3.  Participation is open to teams from all Coast Guard units.  Teams may, but are not required
to, be mixed gender and may be comprised of Coast Guard active duty, reserve, retired, civilian
personnel, and Coast Guard dependent spouses.  Play is six on six.  Rosters are limited to 10
players per team.
4.  Individuals interested in finding a team should contact the tournament coordinator to assist in
placement.  There is no registration for individual players.
5.  There is no limit on the number of teams that may participate.
6.  This is a two day competitive tournament with a round robin and playoff format.  Teams are
expected to be present for both days.  Skill levels among the teams vary, but all teams should be
familiar with the game and be competitive.
7.  The entry fees are 325 dollars per team.
8.  Interested teams and players should contact the tournament coordinator, Byron Willeford at

payments should be made payable to CGA MWR.  Payments should be mailed to Superintendent
(mpm), U.S. Coast Guard Academy, MWR Department, 15 Mohegan Ave., New London, CT
06320-4195, ATTN: Paula Springer or via credit card by calling CGA MWR at (860) 444-8277. 
Tournament information, registration, rules and updates will be available upon request via e-mail
from the coordinator.
9.  Administrative absence and permissive travel orders for this intra-service sporting event may
be authorized for military members in accordance with Ref A, subject to Commanding Officer
approval.
