The Coast Guard rescues two men near New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard assisted two people in distress near The Pen, Louisiana, Friday.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a call from the men that their 16-foot flat bottom boat got stuck in the mud due to shallow waters in The Pen, a lake near New Orleans.

The men called Seatow but the towing company was unable to assist due to shallow waters. The men then exited the boat to attempt to free the vessel from the mud.

Sector New Orleans watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter air crew. The air crew arrived on scene and hoisted the two men and took them to Air Station New Orleans.

“We want to encourage people to be prepared and have a plan in place when they go out in the water. It’s important that people have the proper provisions included in that plan, such as warm clothing, food, water, communications, and emergency gear.” Lt. Cmdr. Wolfe.
