UPDATE: Coast Guard suspends search for overdue kayaker in Providence River, RI 

BOSTON — The Coast Guard has suspended its search Saturday at 5:41 p.m. for a missing kayaker on the Providence River near Conimicut Point, Rhode Island.

Missing is Michael Perry from Warwick, Rhode Island.

At approximately 5 p.m. Friday, Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England watchstanders were notified via 911 dispatch that Perry was missing.

He reportedly left at noon on Friday on a 10-foot orange kayak and was expected to be on the water for an hour. When he did not return as planned, his wife notified 911 and gave them his intended route and schedule.

The Coast Guard along with state and local agencies searched for a total of 22 asset hours and saturated a 104 square nautical mile area.

The search included:

-A  45-foot rescue boat from Coast Guard Station Castle Hill

-A 49-foot Buoy Utility Stern Loading (BUSL) boat from Aids to Navigation Team Bristol

-An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod

-Coast Guard Cutter Steelhead, an 87-foot cutter homeported in Newport, Rhode Island

-The Providence Police and Fire Departments

-The Warwick Fire Department

-The Barrington Fire Department

-The Cranston Fire Department

-The North Kingstown Fire Department

-The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management

The Coast Guard has suspended its search for Perry pending the development of new information.
