Coast Guard Cutter Mellon holds 50th Anniversary ceremony in Seattle

Coast Guard Cutter Mellon crew members Seaman Anastasia Whisenton and Petty Officer 1st Class Steven Ross cut a cake during the cutter’s 50th anniversary ceremony held in the Base Seattle gymnasium on Jan. 9, 2018.
Along with performing each of the Coast Guard’s primary missions, the Mellon crew conducts Alaskan fishery patrols and enforces international and domestic fishing requirements.

The 50th Anniversary ceremony of the Coast Guard Cutter Mellon, held in the Base Seattle gymnasium on Jan. 9, 2018, is shown being streamed live on the Pacific Area Facebook page.
The Mellon crew patrols an extensive area including the Gulf of Alaska, the Bering Sea and the Eastern Pacific ocean down to South America.

Named after Andrew W. Mellon, the 49th Secretary of Treasury from 1921-1932, the Mellon’s keel was laid on July 25, 1966 when she was commissioned on January 9, 1968.
