CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Coast Guard rescued two canoers Tuesday after they became stranded on Little Tybee Island, Ga.

Coast Guard Station Tybee Island watchstanders received a distress call at 10:45 a.m. via cell phone from one of the distressed canoers stating they were stranded on Little Tybee Island and in need of assistance after they swam ashore when their paddles broke.

Coast Guard Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew conducting training in the area diverted to assist at 10:48 a.m.

The Dolphin crew hoisted the canoers at 11:05 a.m. and transported them to Air Station Savannah. 

No injuries were reported.
