Coast Guard rescues 2 canoers stranded on Little Tybee Island

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Coast Guard rescued two canoers Tuesday after they became stranded on Little Tybee Island, Ga.
Coast Guard Station Tybee Island watchstanders received a distress call at 10:45 a.m. via cell phone from one of the distressed canoers stating they were stranded on Little Tybee Island and in need of assistance after they swam ashore when their paddles broke.
A Coast Guard Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew conducting training in the area diverted to assist at 10:48 a.m.
The Dolphin crew hoisted the canoers at 11:05 a.m. and transported them to Air Station Savannah.
No injuries were reported.
