UPDATE: Coast Guard rescues overdue boaters 16 miles east of Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Coast Guard crews rescued two overdue boaters Thursday 16 miles east of Jacksonville.
The boaters were reported overdue by family after they did not return from a fishing trip.
A Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules search plane crew located the boaters 16 miles east of Jacksonville at 6:09 p.m. A Coast Guard Station Mayport 45-foot Response Boat—Medium crew launched at 6:45 p.m. and arrived on scene at 8 p.m. Both boaters were rescued and are being transported to EMS.
Both boaters are being treated for hypothermia and are reported to be in stable condition.
The boat was marked with a locating beacon and is expected to be salvaged Friday.
