JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Coast Guard assisted two mariners Thursday after their fishing vessel became disabled 68 miles east of Fernandina Beach.

Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville Command Center watchstanders were notified at 8:40 a.m. that the Animal Control, a 30-foot fishing vessel, had experienced a loss of steering and was disabled with two mariners aboard.

The Coast Guard Cutter Ridley crew, an 87-foot patrol boat, launched at 11:55 a.m to assist. The Ridley crew arrived on scene at 3:00 p.m. and began towing the disabled vessel to shore.

The Charlotte Marie, the Animal Control's sister ship, rendezvoused with the Ridley near the Mayport sea buoy at approximately 11:30 p.m. and finished towing the disabled vessel into Safe Harbor Marina.

Both mariners were reported to be in good condition.
