HONOLULU — Coast Guard Sector Honolulu command presented the grand prize winner of the North American Marine Environment Protection Association’s “Connecting Ships, Ports and People” art contest at to a student Kapolei Middle School, Oahu, Tuesday.

Camille Quindica, an 8th-grader, was named the grand prize winner and was personally presented a certificate, gift certificate and Coast Guard gear along with her artwork in the NAMEPA 2018 calendar.

The art contest was sponsored by NAMEPA, The U.S. Coast Guard and the Inter-American Committee on Ports of the Organization of the American States.

“We have winners from overseas and all over and we’ve been quite fortunate here in Hawaii,” said Cmdr. Ulysses Mullins, deputy sector commander, Coast Guard Sector Honolulu. “We’ve had two back-to-back winners and we’ve had the opportunity to present the winners in person.”

There were over 500 submissions from students in grades ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade throughout North America, South America, Central America and the Caribbean.
