Coast Guard searches for 1, assists another 18 miles northwest of Bahamas after aircraft emergency water landing

MIAMI — The Coast Guard is searching for a 57-year-old man Thursday after hoisting his wife to safety following an emergency water landing 18 miles northwest of Freeport, Bahamas.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard 7th District Command Center received a notification from a Cessna 210 airplane reporting mechanical issues and stating they were going to make an emergency landing northwest of Freeport. The watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to search and assist.

A good Samaritan seaplane rescued the 60-year-old woman from the water. Shortly after the woman was rescued by the seaplane, the Coast Guard helicopter crew arrived on scene, hoisted the woman from the seaplane and transferred her to emergency medical services, who then transported her to the Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport.

A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and the Coast Guard Cutter Robert Yered crew is searching for the man.
