Coast Guard assists vessel taking on water
NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard assisted two individuals whose vessel was taking on water near Barataria Bay, Louisiana, Friday.
Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a notification at 9:39 a.m. of the 47-foot fishing vessel Billy Joel taking on water with two people aboard.
Watchstanders directed the launch of Coast Guard Station Grand Isle 24-foot Special Purpose Craft boatcrew and a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew, both with dewatering pumps, to assist the vessel.
The boatcrew and aircrew used both pumps to dewater the vessel while the two passengers aboard the Billy Joel boarded the fishing vessel Lucky Pennie.
The passengers will return later to retrieve the vessel.
