SUBJ:  HALF MASTING OF NATIONAL ENSIGN
A. United States Coast Guard Regulations 1992, COMDTINST M5000.3 (series)
1. By order of the Commandant and IAW REF (A), the National Ensign shall be
flown at half mast from sunrise until sunset on Tuesday, 05 Dec 2017, in honor
of RADM Gregory A. Penington, USCG (Retired).
2. The National Ensign shall be flown at half mast on all Coast Guard buildings,
grounds, and vessels not underway.
3. RADM Gregory A. Penington, USCG (Retired), passed away on Wednesday, 29 Nov
2017 in Issaquah, WA at the age of 78. His funeral service will be held at Tahoma
National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th Street, Kent, WA on 05 Dec 2017, at 1:30 pm PST.
4.  RADM Penington was born on 19 Jan 1939 and was a 1960 graduate of the
United States Coast Guard Academy. He graduated from the US Naval War College
Command and Staff School in 1971, and he assumed command as District Commander of
the Ninth Coast Guard District in 1990. RADM Pennington retired from the Coast Guard
in 1995 as Chief, Office of Navigation Safety and Waterway Services (G-N).
