1. Congratulations to LCDR Hannah Kawamoto, the 2017 recipient of the Swaringen
Award for outstanding mentorship in Human Performance Technology (HPT). This
prestigious award recognizes exemplary individual achievement in the selfless
development of others in the application of HPT.
2. LCDR Kawamoto demonstrates the spirit of this award through her personal
commitment to the professional development and success of others and as an unrivaled
emissary for HPT principles, practices, and methodologies. Her nomination included
testimonials from Coast Guard active duty and civilian employees whom she mentored
and positively impacted while assigned as the Division Officer of Training Center
Petaluma’s (TCP) Performance Systems Division. Her colleagues describe her as “an
engaging leader whose constant interaction with her workforce leads to process
improvement”, “a consummate professional whose influence as a mentor, coach, and HPT
professional practitioner transcends the boundaries”, and as one who has “positively
affected the professional growth of dozens of Coast Guard enlisted persons, officers,
civil servants, and contract workers.”
