Coast Guard medevacs diver 31 miles west of Naples, Florida

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. —The Coast Guard medevaced a 26-year-old man from a dive boat 31 miles west of Naples, Florida, Sunday.

At 12:40 p.m. watchstanders from Sector St. Petersburg received a mayday call via VHF-FM marine band radio channel 16 from crewmembers aboard a 27-foot boat, Reel Cowboy. The crew reported a diver was in and out of conciousness, and was in need of emergency assistance. A flight surgeon was notified and recommended the diver be medevaced.

A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Station Fort Myers Beach was launched with Fort Myers Beach Fire Rescue EMS aboard. The Fort Myers Beach crew arrived on scene and medevaced the diver in stable condition to Hamilton Harbor where an ambulance awaited. EMS transported the diver to North Naples Hospital.
