Coast Guard Station Tybee Island and Tybee Island Fire Department rescue a 31-year-old man Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017, after his vessel capsized 1 mile south of Tybee Island, Georgia. CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Coast Guard and Tybee Island Fire Department rescued a 31-year-old man Sunday after his vessel capsized one mile south of Tybee Island, Ga.

Coast Guard Sector Charleston Command Center watchstanders received a 911 relay at 11:40 a.m stating a sailboat capsized with one person aboard.

A Coast Guard Station Tybee Island 29-foot Response Boat – Small crew, an Air Station Savannah MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and a Tybee Island Fire Department crew launched to assist. 

The fire department arrived on scene at 12:05 p.m., recovered the man from the water and transported him ashore where EMS were waiting. 

No injuries were reported. Salvage of the sailing vessel will be arranged by the owner.
