NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued a man after his vessel grounded in Bastin Bay, Louisiana, Saturday.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a report at 1:20 p.m. Saturday of a fishing vessel that experienced steering issues and ran aground in low water with one person aboard but were unable to establish communications with the individual.

Watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew at 4:15 p.m.

The MH-65 aircrew arrived on scene at 4:45 p.m. and lowered a radio to establish communications. At his request, the aircrew hoisted the individual and returned him to the air station.

The vessel was anchored and lit with a strobe light.
