ALBANY, N.Y. — The Coast Guard wrapped up the two-day Hudson River Ports and Waterways Safety Assessment Workshop at the Holiday Inn Express - Downtown in Albany, Thursday.

Participants resumed the workshop this morning to discuss current and future risk mitigation factors for the 24 baseline risk components identified yesterday in the first day of the workshop.

Last week, the first of the two Hudson River PAWSA Workshops was held in Poughkeepsie. Both the Poughkeepsie and Albany sessions will be combined into one report stating the risks on the Hudson River that were identified, as well as potential risk mitigation measures, and help facilitate the Coast Guard's next steps on identified measures. The report will be produced and made available to the public that outlines results from participant discussion, comments made during the workshop, and specific recommendations as to what mitigation strategies should be implemented. The final report will be posted here once complete.

"The PAWSA workshop brought together respected Hudson River community leaders who have expertise and current knowledge in pilotage, maritime law enforcement, protection of natural resources, marine casualty response, and waterway community planning and economics," said Capt. Jason Tama, deputy commander for U.S. Coast Guard Sector New York and sponsor of the PAWSA. "I thank the participants for their respectful and informative dialogue with the ultimate goal of evaluating risk and working toward long term solutions tailored to the Hudson River."
