Coast Guard medevacs crab fisherman near Pescadero Point, Calif.

SAN FRANCISCO — A Coast Guard helicopter crew medevaced a 42-year-old crab fisherman from an 18-foot fishing vessel after the man reportedly injured his hand in a crab pot near Pescadero Point, Sunday. 

One of the six crew members on the fishing vessel contacted Coast Guard Station Golden Gate around 10:50 a.m., requesting help for the operator of the vessel, who had reportedly caught his hand in a crab pot and lacerated his finger. 

The Station Golden Gate crew relayed the call to Coast Guard Sector San Francisco watchstanders, who contacted the injured man via cell phone and dispatched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco and a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Station Golden Gate. Pillar Point Harbor Deputy Sheriff also dispatched a boat crew in response to the call.

Once on scene, the rescue swimmer jumped into the water and swam to the boat to evaluate the injured fisherman. The helicopter crew then hoisted the man and transported him to emergency medical services personnel waiting at San Francisco International Airport.  

A Pillar Point Harbor Master boat crew towed the fishing vessel to Half Moon Bay.
