NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard medevaced a crewmember from a cruise ship on the Mississippi River near Venice, Louisiana, Monday.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received the report of the man experiencing symptoms of appendicitis aboard the cruise ship Carnival Triumph at approximately 6 p.m.

Sector watchstanders directed the launch of a 45-foot response boat crew from Coast Guard Station Venice to medevac the man.

The boatcrew arrived on scene at approximately 9:30 p.m., and transported the man to emergency medical services at Station Venice in stable condition.
