Coast Guard medevacs 84-year-old from cruise ship more than 90 miles from Bahamas

MIAMI — The Coast Guard medevaced an 84-year-old man from the Caribbean Princess cruise ship more than 90 miles south of Great Inagua, Bahamas, Thursday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard 7th District Command Center received a report from the cruise ship stating one of their passengers were experiencing heart attack-like symptoms. Watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew deployed to Great Inagua to assist.

The helicopter crew arrived on scene at approximately 3:40 p.m., hoisted the patient and flew him to Cheshire Hall Medical Centre in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands for further medical attention.
