CORRECTION: Coast Guard medevacs fisherman near Hatteras Inlet, NC

**Correction to date and time.**

HATTERAS, N.C. — The Coast Guard medevaced a fisherman approximately 1 mile south of Hatteras Inlet, Tuesday.

Sector North Carolina watchstanders received notification that a crewmember aboard the 75-foot fishing vessel Lady Carolyn was reportedly injured on the hand by a stingray barb.

A 47-foot Motor Lifeboat crew from Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet launched and arrived on scene at 11 p.m. The crew took the injured man aboard and returned to Station Hatteras Inlet, where awaiting EMS personnel transferred him to the Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head.

"During a case like this communication is key," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Joshua Shawler, coxswain for the case. "The communication between the fishing vessel's crew, Station Hatteras Inlet and our boat crew to quickly get us to this man who urgently needed help greatly expedited our response."
