PHILADELPHIA- The Coast Guard assisted two people aboard a vessel taking on water east of Cape May, New Jersey today.

Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay Command Center in Philadelphia received notification at about 10 a.m. that a 52-foot vessel with two people aboard was taking on water 6 miles east of Cape May, New Jersey.

A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boat crew launched from Coast Guard Station Cape May, arrived on scene and began dewatering the vessel. The pump was able to keep up with the flooding while the Coast Guard boat crew escorted the recreational vessel to the Canyon Club in Cape May Harbor, New Jersey.

“The crew aboard the recreational vessel noticed something was wrong and immediately notified Coast Guard watchstanders from their VHF marine radio on Channel 16,” said Petty Officer Second Tyler Fontaine, coxswain on the case. “We were able to quickly escort them to safety and dewater their vessel because of their fast actions."

No injuries or pollution were reported.
