Coast Guard, partner agencies remove hazardous materials from grounded vessel near Palos Verdes

 

The Coast Guard and partner agencies responded to a grounded 30-foot Bayliner that ran aground on Christmas Tree Cove, near Palos Verdes, Calif. October 31, 2017. Pollution responders from Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach are currently working with the owner to ensure proper actions are taken to mitigate the pollution threat. SAN PEDRO, Calif. — The Coast Guard and partner agencies responded to a grounded 30-foot Bayliner that ran aground on Christmas Tree Cove, near Palos Verdes Monday night.

Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach watchstanders received a mayday call on VHF Channel 16 of a vessel drifting into the rocks at approximately 9:40 p.m. Monday night. All personnel aboard made it safely to shore, but the vessel remained aground.   

The Coast Guard is working with the owner to coordinate recovery efforts and mitigate the environmental threat posed by the potential 140 gallons of gasoline aboard the vessel.

Pollution responders from Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach are currently working with the owner to ensure proper actions are taken to mitigate the pollution threat. Coast Guard personnel and assisting agencies will continue to monitor until the response is complete.

  • California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Office of Spill Prevention and Response
