Coast Guard, local agency assist 3 aboard vessel taking on water near Moriches Inlet, N.Y.
NEW YORK — Coast Guard and Suffolk County Police rescue crews assisted three people aboard a vessel taking on water near Moriches Inlet in Long Island, Wednesday evening.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command center in New London, Conn., received notification at 5:11 p.m., regarding a 30-foot vessel with three people aboard which was taking on water two nautical miles south of Moriches Inlet.
A Coast Guard Station Moriches 29-foot Response Boat-Small (RBS) crew launched and arrived on scene along with Suffolk County Marine and Air.
Once on scene, the Station Moriches crew safely transferred the three people aboard the RBS and made attempts to dewater the sinking vessel.
The three boaters were transferred to the Suffolk County Marine vessel and were not in need of medical attention.
A safety marine information broadcast is scheduled to broadcast hourly until the vessel is salvaged.
