Coast Guard responds to oil discharge

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is responding to a crude oil discharge in Lake Washington near Port Sulfur, Louisiana, Tuesday. 

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans’ Incident Management Division (IMD) received a report at approximately 8 a.m. of an estimated 1,260 gallons of oil and water discharging from a casing line on well LL&E #22. The leak resulted in a heavy rainbow sheen and pockets of brown oil over a two mile by 200-foot area in Lake Washington. 

Hilcorp is the responsible party. ES&H and OMI Environmental Solution are the oil spill response organizations and are on scene conducting clean up operations.

The source of the discharge has been secured. Boom has been deployed.

Sector New Orleans IMD and the responsible party are also on scene.

There are no reports of impact to shoreline.
