Personnel from U.S. Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach and Pender County 911 Communications Center discuss their partnership Sept. 21, 2017, in Wrightsville Beach and Burgaw, North Carolina. On July 23, 2017, Pender County 911 Communications Center personnel and Station Wrightsville Beach personnel responded to a mayday call of an overturned boat with five people aboard. WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. — U.S. Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach and Pender County 911 Communications Center personnel spoke regarding their agency partnership Sept. 21, in Wrightsville Beach.

Coast Guard Sector North Carolina watchstanders in Wilmington received a mayday call July 23, 2017, on Channel 16 that a 19-foot boat was taking on water with five people aboard near Topsail Island. Working with Pender County 911 personnel to get critical information on the vessel's position, Station Wrightsville Beach personnel were able to rescue all five people. 

"This case demonstrates how important it is that we work not only hand-in-hand with Pender County 911 but all our partner agencies in prosecuting search and rescue cases," said Senior Chief Petty Officer Durwood Marshburn, officer-in-charge at Station Wrightsville Beach.
