Coast Guard rescues missing hiker in Olympic National Forest
SEATTLE — The Coast Guard rescued a missing hiker in the Olympic National Forest, Monday morning after the hiker was reported missing Sunday afternoon.
An aircrew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Port Angeles located and rescued the 79-year-old male and transported him to Sequim Valley Airport where the patient was transferred to emergency medical technicians for further care.
Air Force Rescue Coordination Center personnel requested assistance from a Coast Guard aircrew at 8:48 a.m., Monday. The Port Angeles aircrew arrived at the assigned search area at 10 a.m., and searched for an hour before locating the man on the Dungeness Trail within the Olympic National Forest. The helicopter crew landed in a clearing nearby and picked up the man.
The man was originally reported missing to Clallam County emergency personnel after he got separated from the group he was hiking with on Sunday.
The rescue crew reported the man as extremely exhausted but otherwise uninjured.
