SAN FRANCISCO — A Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued a man who became stranded while operating a personal watercraft along the Napa River, Saturday evening.
Two men were riding two personal watercraft when one of the vessels became disabled. One of the men swam ashore and was driven to the Vallejo boat ramp by a good Samaritan. The remaining man towed the disabled vessel toward the Vallejo boat ramp to meet his friend.
The man who swam ashore called Coast Guard Sector San Francisco watchstanders at approximately 9 p.m., reporting that his friend was last seen around 7 p.m. and was overdue at the Vallejo boat ramp.
An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco was dispatched to the area. The crew located the missing man and the personal watercraft, both aground near the Napa River.
The helicopter crew lowered a rescue swimmer to the stranded man, who reported he was mildly hypothermic. The crew hoisted the mariner and transported him to Napa Airport where they were met by emergency medical services personnel.
