PORTSMOUTH, Va. — The Coast Guard assisted four people aboard a boat taking on water near Deltaville, Virginia, Saturday afternoon.
Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads Command Center in Portsmouth received notification at about 11:30 a.m. that a 36-foot vessel with four people aboard was taking on water near the mouth of the Rappahannock River.
A Coast Guard 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew launched from Station Milford Haven in Hudgins, Virginia. The RB-M crew arrived on scene and dewatered the vessel to stabilize it.
A Virginia Marine Police boat crew also arrived on scene to assist. The Station Milford Haven and VMP crews escorted the vessel to Deltaville Yachting Center, where the boat was safely removed from the water via lift.
“Having the Virginia Marine Police crew on scene with us made a big difference and gave us peace of mind,” said Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Joshua Nieves, coxswain for the case. “This case serves as a reminder of how much we value our partnerships with local agencies.”
