NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard rescued two people aboard a disabled sailboat in Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana, Saturday.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received a notification at 10:10 a.m. of two people aboard a 41-foot sailboat that experienced an engine casualty while they were under power heading toward Oak Harbor Marina near Slidell, Louisiana.

Watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station New Orleans 24-foot Special Purpose Craft boatcrew at 10:16 a.m. The boatcrew arrived on scene at 12:06 p.m.

The boatcrew brought the survivors aboard the Special Purpose Craft and anchored the sailboat. The survivors were transported back to Oak Harbor and both were reported in stable condition.

During the height of the storm, rescue assistance may be unavailable. Boaters and citizens should heed storm warnings, take early action to stay safe, and protect themselves and their families.

The public should continue to follow safety information provided by local, state and federal government agencies.
